Your campaign can include characters, these can be Player Characters (PCs) or Non-Player Characters (NPCs). Characters are created on the Campaign page under the Characters heading where you will find a button labelled "New Character". Players and Game Masters can both create Characters.
This character type will come with stats, abilities and saves based on the Open Game Licence SRD 5.0. You can use this to fill in your character sheet for this system. It includes level, class, scores for skills like strength and dexterity and abilities like athletics and acrobatics. You can of course also customize it just as you would any other sheet and it can be a great example on how automation and character sheets work in general.
These character types let you define all the character's properties yourself and fill in their scores. Properties will be available in dice rolls by their names.
Characters in Tableplop are made up of properties, each stat, text block and other element on the sheet is a property. Some properties are used for layout, like the title section or the column section. Some properties can be referenced in formulas and rolls like the number and ability score properties. These can all be added, removed and moved in the page by enabling edit mode at the end of the tab list.
In this mode you can hover a property to see buttons to drag it around the page, to edit it in more detail, to delete it or to move it to another tab.
Also in this mode you can add new properties to the sheet in any section which will open a searchable list of new properties to add.
If you created characters for your players you can assign their characters to them with the "player" setting. This will let them edit the character and also send chat messages as that character an move the character in Scenes.
For secret characters and NPCs you can set them to private so that players that don't control the character cannot see them in the campaign and their details like stats are hidden in Scenes.
The character will still be visible on the map in the scene as long as visible is enabled on the character's token in the scene.
These settings are also available in the scene, if you select a character token and open the token details sub-panel the settings tab is available there too.
For the character's appearance you can upload a picture or re-use picture from your content or use one of the tableplop built-in images in your content. This will Change how your character is displayed in the scene and around Tableplop. The appearance option is added to the character sheet as a Property, if you are starting from a blank sheet you will need to add this property to the sheet to set the character's appearance.
Saved messages can be sent in chat in a scene. In the SRD 5.0 sheet a few are filled out for you like some generic weapon attacks but you can add more for other weapons and spell attacks for example, or as GM for bits of dialog like items for sale or special attacks.
Entering edit mode you can also add custom icons for each message.
You can also send these messages straight from the chat box referencing them like this:
!m greataxe
All properties with names and values (numbers, ability scores, text fields, hit points) can be used in dice rolls to help you make checks and saves. Include them by name with spaces replaced by dashes. See Dice Rolls and Messages for information.
Some properties have built in saved messages and have a send button beside them, click this in a scene to send the message to chat. Right click the button to see additional options.
A simple number field to track whole numbers.
A text field for any short information.
